How To Prepare Your Caravan for Storage
you’ve had a lovely trip away, seen new sights, enjoyed new experiences and now you need to consider what you do when you are not using your ‘home away form home. Here are some useful tips to preparing your caravan for storage.
Give your vehicle a through clean both inside and out.
- On the outside you should give it a good going over to remove dirt build up (as this can retain moisture).
- Choose a cleaning agent that will not damage the paint or bodywork.
- Can any mould or mildew that may have developed, and you can touch up and missing paint chips or scratches.
- On the inside, pack away sheets and cushions and other fabrics where mould or mildew might grow. Even better if you can seal them in vacuum sealed bags if leaving for a prolonged period.
- Clean out all the little nooks where dust accumulates.
- Leave cupboards and wardrobes open to assist with ventilation.
Check your tyres, you know it is important to assess the tyre before, during and after towing. Once you have your van in storage, you have a good opportunity to check the tyres. Check the depth, wear and pressure looking for any damage.
Be sure to check the electrical components. Make sure any external plugs and outlets are protected from weather, wrap in plastic or cover with waterproofing tape. Make sure all cords are unplugged from power while sorted. Switch off any items that may drain the main battery.
Remove batteries from personal items to prevent leak and corrosion.
Don’t forget to remove any food to prevent pests and leave the fridge door open.
Disconnect your gas bottle
Ensure all hatches, vents and windows are closed.
Lock, secure, cover until your next holiday!
